Max Zuurhout is one of the young talents who has found his place at StudioXR. Even when the original team was still called Zwartlicht, he was there; first as an intern from the Grafisch Lyceum Utrecht, now as a full-fledged 3D-Artist. For over 4 years he has been working on 3D models that are used in applications for our clients. From new cars to F1 cars, he enjoys working on everything to do with mobility.

“I have a tremendous love for cars. Not even so much the technology, but rather the design. From classics and old-timers to future concept cars, I love to see it. And how cool is it that I am constantly working on that for my job?”

Strict criteria

So you could say that Max has fallen head over heels with our team. His love for cars gets all the room it needs to shine. By working together with our developers, he has already seen several projects come to life and that is what makes his work so much fun; looking together for ways to make static objects move. All this, of course, based on very specific criteria.

“Of course, it’s very tempting to create a super high-fidelity 3D object that looks fantastic in a render. Just think about how beautiful animations can look on a game computer or PS5. That’s very cool, of course, but not feasible for the applications we make. Everything I make must also be playable on phones, for example … and then also the older models. And I find that quest very interesting, because how do I make something that looks nice, but at the same time is not too heavy for small systems?”

Working together | Collaboration

So puzzling and a lot of cooperation, according to Max. But that’s not a problem for him. It is precisely this cooperation that makes it fun for him, especially when it comes to pioneering. Finding solutions together, discovering how new technologies work and how new software editions can take a project to a higher level is what makes his work challenging for Max.

“We are always developing. From learning how to work with programs like Adobe Substance Painter, to discovering how useful new AI applications can be. We live in a wonderful time where all of this is possible.”
